The Date That Was Not Supposed To Be Our Date

We took Eric with us to Chicago for the weekend to stay with our friend Emily. The plan was to hang out at Em's place on Friday night & then see the river getting dyed green on Saturday & then Saturday night was going to be the "Date" night while Emily watched Eric.

Emily was so kind to volunteer to do all this for us while having us stay in her place & even stay in her bedroom! What a friend!

Then we have to come barge in with all that goes along with having a 1 year old. Not only were his toys everywhere but he was taking all of her belongings & spreading them all over the place faster than we could pick them up! Good thing she had a swifter- that is a new favorite toy!

Anyway, after all that, we kept Emily awake all Friday & Saturday nights, probably along with all of her neighbors as well. Eric decided he was going to have a bit of a sleeping issue at 3:30am on Friday night (Sat morning) & thought it was time to party & not go back to bed. So Jeff ended up driving him around & taking him to a coffee shop til 7am so Emily & I could get some sleep.

Eric did not take any naps the rest of the day & was acting pretty good, but just refused to nap. Then little did we know that it would get so much worse at night! We finally got him to sleep & got directions to the place we were going to have our date & low & behold the crying started back up as we started out the door. I couldn't leave Emily with this screaming child even though she was nice enough to tell us just to leave anyway!

So he would only sleep in my arms for the rest of the night with many interruptions of crying & about 3:30 am we decided instead of driving around again we would just drive home. So we said so long to Emily about 4am & got to see all of the drunken St. Patty's day bar-goers trying to stumble home in their kilts. (Chicago bars don't close til 4am!) So we had to stop at a popular hot dog stand on the way home & try one! Best hot dog I ever had!

So this is why I am concluding that Friday night was truly our "date" night for the weekend since after Eric did go to bed Emily & I went down to Lucky's Pub so we could pick up some of the sandwiches we saw on Man Vs Food a while back! You have to see the pics.............

Emily showing us the beastlyness of the sandwich!

We just passed around each 1/2 sandwich that we had started on because we knew there was no way we would even get more than 1/2 sandwich down. And of course we wanted to try every kind! We sucessfully only got 3 1/2ves down with 3 of us. And not even 1/2 the fries. Of course we had the leftovers for breakfast/lunch the next morning! Best part about these sandwiches- they are only $7.99 each!! (That is for a whole one!) So I definately stayed within the date budget.

Anyway we got to have good conversation with our old & great friend Emily! I have known Emily since kindergarten so we get each other very well! It has been so much fun getting to see her in the big city & we love coming!

Thanks for the great date night Emily!

  2. mmmmmmm.....sandwiches (in a homer simpson way!). Lovely date food.

What on earth did they do to that river! Can't imagine the government over here ever letting anyone do that - must be really strange for children to see.

Good luck for a babyfree night next week (they always can tell when something interesting is going on!) xo
